Back from Davos shed new light on the role of Research and Science

Back from Davos returned to the Cercle de Lorraine in Brussels for its 6th edition on 27 January 2020. Participants and speakers had the chance to exchange views based on the main takeaways from the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The distinguished speaker Mauro Ferrari, President of the European Research Council shared an exciting new perspective on Davos in conversation with Dan Michaels, Brussels Bureau Chief for the Wall Street Journal. President Ferrari captivated the audience with his tales of the week’s long events and focused on the importance of science and research going into the new decade. “Europe must listen to its scientists who listen to their hearts”.

His passion was apparent throughout the discussion. Some other key takeaways from the evening discussion were:

- The transition from the dominant business model of a shareholder focus to a stakeholder focus

-The importance of the role of women leaders and their burgeoning influence in politics with Europe leading the charge with its female leaders

- Innovation in itself is not enough, we need business to bolster innovation to drive it forward – collaboration is key

We would like to thank all the participants and speakers who came to share their thoughts. Don’t miss our pictures now available on Flickr:
