Afke Schaart of Mircrosoft, Senior Director, EU Institutional Relations at Microsoft will adress at 2013 European Business Summit. Afke Schaart joined Microsoft on January 2013 as the new Senior Director for EU Institutional Relations. Afke is a former member of the Dutch Parliament for the Liberal Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD). Until September 2012 she was the spokesperson for Economic Affairs and focused on ICT, Innovation, Technology, Export and Trade. Prior to becoming a Member of Parliament Afke held several positions at KPN in the field of Corporate Communications and Legal & Regulatory in the Hague. She started her career at KPN as a communications advisor for internet access services and later on moved to the position of senior advisor communication and reputation strategy for KPN Mobile. In her latest role at KPN Afke was responsible for the company’s policy interest and governmental affairs within Europe as its Director Public Affairs. Afke joined KPN from Shell International where she has worked in a number of different roles in the Group Corporate Center in the field of Executive Resourcing and Organisation and Corporate Communications. Afke received a Bachelor’s degree in European Studies with a minor in Communications Management. She further received a Master’s degree in Political Sciences with a major in International Relations. Afterwards she completed the post-academic study in diplomatic relations at the Netherlands Institute of International Relations “Clingendael”. Afke Schaart was also a Council Member of the Municipality of Wassenaar for the VVD. She has also been a Board member of ECP-EPN, platform for public/private cooperation in the information economy and society in the Netherlands and a board member for the Fiber to the Home (FttH) Platform.
